Stream Restoration Project
The Downtown Sheridan Association is beginning a
stream restoration project that will not only contribute to the
ongoing vitality of our community's core, but also enhance and
protect environmental habitats affecting our entire watershed. We
plan to establish a RiverWalk that will establish the confluence of
Little Goose and Big Goose Creeks as a northern "anchor" for
downtown Sheridan, reconnecting the citizens of Sheridan with the
creeks' historical role in the founding of Sheridan and realizing
the creeks' potential benefit for the aesthetics, recreation and
development of downtown.
A RiverWalk concept has long been part of the
Sheridan Master Plan, and after seeing the success of a recent
Natural Channel Design stream restoration through the City Park in
Buffalo, Wyoming, DSA became interested in a similar approach to
Sheridan's river system. The Natural Channel Design method's
emphasis on restoring natural form and function to the creeks not
only addresses currently critical sediment transport issues but also
aesthetics and accessibility.
Downtown Sheridan Association is now raising
funds to complete the first of three phases. This initial work,
through our community's much-loved Kendrick Park, will provide the
primary educational component and impetus for the following phases.
In this way, it really is the most important and publicly popular
part of our upcoming work.

The DSA had it's first fund raiser for the Stream
Restoration Project. On August 19, 2007 the Flying H Ranch
generously offered to stage a Hi Goal polo event for the DSA and the
Stream restoration Project. This game was played by many of the top
professional polo players in the world in front of 1000 spectators.

There were 14 sponsors of this event which netted
the DSA/Stream Restoration Project over $15,000! The event
will be an annual event and the DSA is looking for 2008 sponsors.
